Period 3 - Semester Final

1. My favorite picture is #1 because I find that the missile explosion reflects on the water lighting up the sea playing with light and shadow. Also, the smoke the missiles leave in the sky create diagonal lines and movement and the sea takes up about a third of the picture, giving it a nice balance.

2. The best  picture is #4. Not only is it taken from an interesting angle resulting in an eye catching effect but the building column takes up about a third of the space, following the rules of thirds. In addition, the photographer filled the frame and "got closer".

3. My best work is the last picture on my Inspired by a Master- Henri Cartier Bresson. This picture is my best work because it catches movement and has many details in it that make you want to keep looking at it. On top of that, I worked hard to be creative and use lines and patterns. If I had more time I would have either made the tree and Junior more perfectly centered or toward one side or the other because it is sort of awkward how they are almost in the center but not quite.

4. My rules are fill the frame, use diagonals, and rule of thirds.

5. Inspired my Cartier Bresson
.
Brick Lines

This photo fills the frame by having the brick pattern fill the picture. It also uses diagonals at the corners and the rim of the brick step is captured at an angle appearing as a diagonal line.

6. Your first rule of photography is to get closer!

7. The benefits of working in groups is it strengthens your communicating skills, you need to use team work which can lessen your load, everyone can work together to improve by sharing their input, you get to know other people and make friends, and it prepares your for the future, you will need to know how to work in a team in college and the work force.

8. Some difficulties of working in  a group is you are only as strong as your weakest link, you need to help others even if you are on track, you may feel dragged down by others who are slower, you are responsible for everyone in the group, and it can be stressful because you cant fully control others.

9. My favorite picture by another person in this class is Kevan Mathis' fourth picture on his Inspired by a Masters blog post of a modern version of one of Henry Cartier Bresson's most famous photos of a man riding a bike and stairs.

A Little History

10. Henri Cartier-Bressson is considered one of the major artists of the 20th century. He was a pioneer in street photojournalism. He took raw, real, and spontaneous photos all around the world. His work helped establish photojournalism as a true art form. He captured major American events, such as the Spanish Civil War and the French uprisings. His work was rule breaking, focusing on the importance of street photography and he captured sights that many Americans would not have been exposed to without his photos. His influence on street photography styles is so strong he is known as the "Godfather of Street Photography".

11. "Migrant Mother" is Dorothea Langes most famous photo. It was taken at a camp for seasonal agricultural workers in Nipomo, California on March 1936 while she was employed for the Farm Security Administration.

12.On November 23, 1936, the first issue of Life (as a pictorial magazine rather than a humor piece) was published featuring a cover of Fort Peck Dam, by Bourke-White.

13. In 1947, Capa co-founded Magnum Photos in Paris.

14. Robert Capa took the picture "Falling Soldier" on September 5th, 1936 in Espejo during the Spanish Civil War and shows the moment of death of a militiaman.
